"If education is protection to life, you will realize that it is necessary that education accompany life during its whole course."

Our Mission
Our Mission
At MSC we strive to develop the unique capabilities of each child. Guided by the work of Dr. Maria Montessori and informed by current research, our committed staff honors the natural curiosity of children. Our academically rigorous, self-paced curriculum allows children to work according to their own developmental levels.
In multi-age classes, children discover the dignity of work as well as the importance of caring for themselves and others. Since we attract families from a rich array of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, MSC students learn to be citizens of the world.
Our mission is to foster a love of learning that will guide and sustain children throughout their lives.
Mission Statement
The Montessori School of Columbia offers an authentic Montessori education that challenges students academically and fosters each child’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth in order to prepare them to serve as responsible citizens of the greater community.
Philosophy & Goals
The Montessori method of instruction is based on the principle that children have a natural desire and talent for learning. The school strives to foster this natural ability by offering materials that allow children to think creatively and pursue lessons and projects in long, uninterrupted blocks of time. Instruction is individualized within limits set by the Montessori teachers; the children may select and work on projects of their choice. The school’s curriculum places particular emphasis on the sciences, grammar, geometry, the arts, math, composition, and history. Students are expected to be kind, respectful, and positive community.+
