    New Preschool Teacher!

    Throughout the year, we have reviewed resumes from over 50 applicants, conducted telephone interviews with over a dozen, and had six candidates come in for extensive in-person interviews.

    After a long and thorough search, we identify Martha Cunningham of Seattle, Washington, as an ideal match for the Montessori School of Columbia. Martha is AMS Primary certified, holds a BA in Education and Human Services, has extensive training in child development, and has spent five years working in Montessori schools. Mostly, we love her ambition, demeanor, and her obvious commitment to children!

    Martha will be moving to Columbia with her husband, an engineer who enjoys building robots in his free time. Who knows, maybe we’ll convince him to offer a robotics course at the elementary school! They have one daughter who graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Korean/Chinese. She is teaching English in Seoul and plans to go to graduate school when she returns.

    We would like to extend a huge “thank-you” to Misty Dickson for stepping in to teach in the preschool this year. Misty allowed us to take our time with this search and we knew all along that we could count on Misty to help us out until we found the right match. Lois remained the constant, steady, reassuring presence throughout the year. We also thank the search committee for their perseverance and their high standards and fastidiousness. Finally, thank you to the preschool parents who believed in this school and in this search. We look forward to your meeting and getting to know Martha and feel confident you will find her to be a wonderful addition to our MSC family.
